25-Book Challenge

All 5th Grade students are required to read 25 chapter books or an equivalent of 25 chapter books in order to participate in the 5th grade picnic/celebration at the end of the school year.  Students can earn points by taking AR tests and passing with an 80% or above or by completing book reports.  5 picture books add up to 1 chapter book, and 3 non-fiction books add up to 1 chapter book.  As an added motivation, the first FIVE students in my class who complete the 25 book challenge will receive an extra reward.  They will get breakfast of their choice from McDonalds, Chick Fil A, Sonic, or Bojangles.  Students should be reading 25 minutes at home each night, in my class in the morning (homeroom time), and in the afternoons in my class once they finish their homework (dismissal).  They can take take AR tests during these times at school or at other appropriate times when their other work is complete.

Boxtops

I will be collecting Box Tops for our school in the classroom and turning them in.  These are a great way to earn some extra money for our school!  They can be found on a wide variety of items you probably already buy!  Products include baking, bakeware, cereal, produce, food storage, frozen foods, boxed meals/sides, paper products, school/office supplies, refrigerated/dairy, tableware, snacks/juices, and waste bags.  Click this link to open a document containing a complete list of all products that have Box Tops.  To encourage students to bring them in, I will be offering a reward.  1 Pride Paw will be given for every 5 Box Tops brought to me!  Students can bring them to me at the beginning or end of class.

Soda Can Tabs

Our class's 4-H Club is also collecting pop tabs.  For every gallon we collect, we earn 100 points as a class toward earning our end of the year 4-H ice cream party.  I will gladly give 1 pride paw for every 5 soda tops brought in.

Birthdays

Celebrating birthdays is absolutely encouraged, and I always make an effort to make a student feel special on their day.  Students may bring in a small treat to share during recess like cupcakes, cookies, etc.  Please try to avoid bringing in cakes that need to be cut or balloons.

Attendance & Illnesses

When your child is absent, you must submit a written note/doctor's note/dentist's note in order for it to be excused.

Transportation

All transportation change requests must be submitted in writing.  I am unable to accept email or phone requests.  Notes are taken on a daily basis by teachers, but permanent change requests need to be handled through the front office.
